New Botswana Agate Cabochons have arrived at The Gem Shop! These cabochons are cut to display wonderful patterns and nice contrasting colors. Botswana Agate originates from South Africa and was first imported into the United States by The Gem Shop in the early 1970's. The country of Botswana now has an embargo on rough material. It does not allow agate to be exported without being cut or polished. The new Botswana Agate Cabochons are perfectly priced and available for individual purchase.
The Gem Shop is a proud sponsor of this year's SRIM Fest in Kenosha, Wisconsin. SRIM (Smooth Riders Indoor Music) Festival is a 3 day event held at The Brat Stop in Kenosha on March 27th - 29th. There will be over 50 bands on 13 stages! Many varieties of music are played from rock, jam band, blues, folk, country, and hard rock. Tickets are $8 and are available at The Gem Shop and on our website. The Gem Shop will also be exhibiting at the festival with some great rock products. The Gem Shop has an exquisite collection of Morrisonite, Bruneau Jasper, Willow Creek Jasper Specimens available now! All of these jaspers come from an area of the Western United States that is rich with jaspers. Unfortunately, Willow Creek is the only material that is still mined. Morrisonite was mined in the past by The Gem Shop, which is chronicled in Gene Mueller's book "Mining Morrisonite". The Morrisonite available in this collection comes as polished slabs and fantastic specimens. Many of the jasper specimens have a beautiful curved polish face, which adds to their unique appearance. The Gem Shop has a new batch of Ocean Jasper® Spheres available on our website! Ocean Jasper first came on the market in 1999 and 100's of tons were mined through 2005. Good, colorful material with large orbicular patterns is becoming harder and harder to come by since the mine has been depleted. Small batches of rough have come into the country every year, but since 2005, most of the rough is all low grade. These spheres were cut from material that was mined in the early 2,000's. Dugway Geodes
A new selection of Dugway Geodes are available at The Gem Shop. These geodes are found in Utah, and are the result of volcanic activity millions of years ago. The geodes have blue-gray banded agate with druzy quartz centers. The druzy ranges in colors from a brilliant snow white to a translucent blue-gray. The geodes are a great addition to a collection. The Tucson Show is winding down, but there is still time to discover new products and treasures. The Gem Shop is set up in Tucson at the Tucson Showplace in space A-1.
