Petoskey Stones are a type of fossilized coral that can be found on the beaches of the Great Lakes, primarily Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, or in rock quarries across the upper Midwest. The polyps of the ancient coral, hexagonaria, create the honeycomb patterning seen on the stones. While also a fossil, the Petoskey Stone is the official State Stone of Michigan!
