Calendar of Fine Agates & Jaspers

Dedicated to revealing the beauty of the natural world.

The Gem Shop, Inc. produces a high quality print calendar each year that features photographs of agates and jaspers from collections all over the world. There have been over twenty yearly editions of The Calendar of Fine Agates & Jaspers, each with unique specimens showcasing a wide variety of localities.

Any collector is welcome to submit pictures of polished specimens in their collection for consideration. Participation is free, and collectors of chosen specimens will receive three complementary copies of the calendar upon print.

Please email submissions to: web.production@thegemshop.com
or text to: 262-622-3525

Submission Deadline: June 15th

Calendar Details:

  • Twelve "primary" specimens are chosen each year, featured on the top half of each monthly spread.
  • Various "secondary" specimens are chosen to decorate the lower half of the
monthly spread as space allows. These can be from the same collection as the primary image or from a different collection.
  • The collection owner for each month's primary and secondary specimens will be credited within the information box.

Acceptable Specimens:

  • All types of fine jaspers, thundereggs, petrified wood, dinosaur bone, and agates are acceptable.
  • Polished, full specimens or pairs are preferred, but exceptions are made for oddities (ex.: Lake Superior Agate is often kept natural).
  • Shaped items like spheres or cabochons are acceptable, but are less likely to be chosen as a "primary" image.

Image Requirements:

  • Please submit original photos at the highest size possible. If you are photographing your own pieces, natural sunlight is the best for capturing the true color of stones. It can often be tricky to avoid glare, but our skilled editors can work with multiple photographs to remove this if needed.
  • Please do not use editing apps to remove the background on your photos, as this often distorts the true edges of the specimen and reduces the size of the original photo.
  • We love large files! If you are having trouble emailing, consider using a Dropbox or WeTransfer link.

Other Submission Tips:

  • Please include specific locality information if known.
  • Submitting multiple types of rocks is encouraged. Unused submissions automatically go on file as submissions for future years.
  • A typical year consists of six true agates, three or four jaspers, and two or three "others" (being chosen from petrified woods, dinosaur bone, and thundereggs).
  • Pieces are chosen based on specimen quality, then variety.
  • Collector duplication is avoided at our discretion. (We seek to feature different collectors within the same calendar, but consecutive years is allowed.)
