Area 51: We Lost Some Good Friends There
Lapidary is not a hobby - it’s a disease. My sister, my brother, my brother-in-law, and myself are all affected. It is very special that we all now share this interest, though this came to me later in life after I retired. Of course, we already have history because we all grew up together, but now our relationship is even better because we share this fascination. When we were kids, my older sister thought that her mission in life was to keep me out of trouble. At that time, I was the black sheep of the family and trouble was my middle name. I thought that rocks were for busting out windows in the old abandoned shoe factory in our town. Little did I know that rocks tell stories, and that some of them contain the secrets of the universe.
I was at The Gem Shop with my sister, and we were hunting for that “perfect” specimen in the big fifty-five-gallon drums in the yard. She said to me, “When these barrels get half empty, they fill them up again and they just keep doing that over and over. Nobody ever searches down to the bottom of the barrel and that’s where the good stuff gets concentrated”. We were digging in a barrel labeled Misty Mountain Landscape Jasper. This looked like great stuff: nice color, a great variety of different rocks – awesome! She and I emptied that barrel right down to the muck at the bottom. That’s when I found it!! I knew this one was going to be special. It sat around in my shop for a few months. Occasionally I would pick it up, turn it over and over again, examining it from all angles, thinking about the best way to cut it – you can only cut it once. Finally, I thought Okay – this is it, I am going to cut it. And then BOOM there it was!! Little aliens, how cool!
For some reason it has become dogma in our Christian religion that the Earth is God’s special creation and that we (mankind) are the pinnacle of His creation – we’re it. I wonder, have we made our God too small? Why would this vast universe be full empty space? Have we made up this limitation? Aliens exist – no doubt about it. These pieces feature four little aliens that I found inside the rock that I hauled out of the muck in the bottom of that barrel. You could cut a thousand pieces of Misty Mountain Landscape Jasper and never find a piece like this again. Limitless indeed.
Area 51 is a secret U.S. Air Force military installation located in Nevada. It has super high security and is strictly OFF LIMITS to the public. For years there has been speculation about the installation - especially amid growing reports of UFO sightings in the vicinity. The Roswell Incident occurred in 1947, famous for the alleged recovery of a crashed “flying Disc” of alien origin. There are many who believe that not only was a UFO recovered, but that alien survivors and bodies of aliens killed in crash were also recovered. It is believed that the remains recovered at Roswell, New Mexico, were transported to the secure Area 51 where they may remain to this day. The truth about this incident has allegedly long been covered up by the United States government. The raw piece of Madagascar Misty Mountain Landscape Jasper that my sister and I found produced four little aliens. This piece features one of those, next to a sphere from an unknown rock. Perhaps from Madagascar, perhaps of extraterrestrial origin, who knows?
Little aliens are known to be especially fond of Rose Quartz. Historical descriptions indicate that the Assyrians, as well as the Romans and Egyptians used Rose Quartz. Jewelry pieces featuring the stone were crafted by the Assyrians as early as 800 BC. Romans used it as an official seal to signify ownership, and the Egyptians believed it could prevent aging. Perhaps the knowledge of how to use Rose Quartz was given to them by extraterrestrial visitors.
Every cut of Landscape Jasper is likely to reveal surprises: you just never know what you will find inside when you cut it. It is amazingly open to artistic interpretation - some people see little aliens. Perhaps they see evidence of the formation of the Planet, maybe even the universe!
