Meteorite Small Piece (Nantan)

$15.00

Nantan Meteorites were discovered near Nantan in Guangxi, China in 1958. The location could possibly match a recorded fall from May of 1516, but not enough information is known. The possibility is based on comet observations describing stars "five to six fold long, waving like snakes and dragons" from historical Chinese records. Nantan Meteorites are sometimes called Kamacite, which is an alloy of iron and nickel only produced in meteorites. They have an octahedral structure and show Widmanstätten patterns/Thompson structures. Shown next to a quarter for size, these are tiny individual pieces.

Plastic mineral box included. Approximately 1cm long.

Images are representative of the piece you will receive, but each is unique.
