Smoke cleansing is a practice seen in many different cultures using sage, incense, wood, herbs, or other natural resources. Smudging with sage, especially the widely used California white sage, is a tradition in many Northern Native American tribes. The practice was previously illegal in some parts of the country, and it is important to respect the bravery and history of those who continued practicing and passing this tradition down.
