Rough Sheen Obsidian from Mexico. Obsidian is an organically created glass, formed through felsic lava that rapidly cools after exploding past the earth’s crust. It exhibits conchoidal fracturing and is a hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale. Sheen Obsidian has metallic shine and chatoyancy when cut with its veining. This sheen is caused by tiny bubbles within its formation.
