Botswana Agates are finely banded nodular agates from the country of Botswana in Africa. The bands and warm colors of the Botswana Agate make it a very popular and beautiful agate.These agates are very similar in character to Lake Superior Agates which provoked their initial popularity. The Gem Shop, Inc. was the first American company to import these agates into the United States, beginning in the 1970s. Today, the government of Botswana has imposed an embargo on all rough gemstone material in the country, requiring it to be cut and polished before it may leave. High quality rough agate from Botswana has become scarce.
