Estimated to be almost 2 billion years old, Shungite is is a black, lustrous, non-crystalline mineraloid consisting of more than 98 weight percent of carbon. It originates in Russia, where Peter the Great used its water purifying properties in his palace in the early 1700s. He also required Russian soldiers to carry a piece of Shungite with them in their backpacks.
Shungite is said to be a rare and powerful stone with unparalleled healing abilities. Historically it was used to treat conditions such as vomiting, diarrhea, scurvy, kidney problems and many other ailments. It does have scientifically confirmed anti-bacterial properties, and is still used in water purification.
Metaphysically Shungite is said to be a protection, healing, and grounding stone. It is supposed to help shield oneself from electromagnetic radiation and negative attachments. It is also said to stimulate spiritual growth, gratefulness, and self-worth.
