Morrisonite, short for Morrison Ranch Jasper, is considered to be one of the finest jaspers in the world. It is found in southeastern Oregon in a very remote area along the Owyhee River (see Mining/Rock Locations for maps, exact location, and pictures of the area). The Gem Shop, Inc. mined Morrisonite from 1986 to 1996. There are five claims in the area. The Gem Shop, Inc. was the principal producer of the jasper from the Christine Marie claim.
The Gem Shop produced a VHS video of one of our mining operations in 1993 and this video is available on our Publications page. Pictures from our mining operations can be viewed on our mining pages. No commercial quantity of Morrisonite has been produced since 1996.
